Kind, useful, and yours.
Five rules for this community. They're short on purpose — the point is to support each other, not to read fine print.
Rule 1
Lead with kindness
Every parent here is doing their best with what they have. Assume good faith. Critique ideas, never people.
Rule 2
Center lived experience
Share what worked (or didn't) for your family. Avoid prescribing what others must do.
Rule 3
No harm, no hate
Zero tolerance for cure rhetoric, ABA debates that punch down, ableism, or attacks on autistic adults.
Rule 4
Protect kids' privacy
Don't share identifying photos, full names, school names, or medical records of children — yours or others.
Rule 5
No medical or legal advice
Share experiences and resources; flag licensed professionals. Don't diagnose or prescribe in threads.
If something breaks the rules
Use the flag button on any post or comment. A person reads reports. Beyond Typical is volunteer-run, so that can take a few days. The same rules apply to everyone. Repeated violations can lead to a warning, then a timeout, then a ban.
